Corporate Law
Cumberland School of Law requires all students to take a course in Business Organizations because the faculty is convinced that understanding the role and function of the basic forms of business entities is essential to all practicing lawyers. Professors Mike DeBow, Tom Stone and I each teach one section of this course. In addition, professors Howard Walthall and Mike Floyd offer many commercial law and transactions courses. The range of courses which might interest you includes more than 30 courses currently listed in our curriculum. In addition to our full-time faculty, we are fortunate to have many successful and well-respected corporate and transaction lawyers teaching as adjunct faculty members. In addition to the courses offered on campus, Cumberland School of Law has a summer program in England which often includes international business classes. While the courses offered change from year to year, topics involving business in the EU have been offered frequently. Cumberland School of Law also offers corporate externships with large local businesses where students have an opportunity to work with in-house legal staff for course credit. Because of the law school’s location in a major metropolitan area, our students have opportunities to clerk at law firms during the school year, as well as in the summer. Our alumni are not only successful partners in major law firms, many are also in-house counsel or executives are major corporations. If you are interested in transactional law, Cumberland School of Law offers an excellent opportunity for you to develop the skills you will need to make a valuable contribution to your firm or business. Please feel free to call upon me if I can be of assistance to you or provide more details about our curriculum. Sincerely,
