Scholarships

Entering Students

Every student admitted to Cumberland is considered a possible scholarship student. Those found most deserving by the Dean and the Scholarship Committee will be offered financial assistance in the form of full or partial merit scholarships, which may include a one-time stipend of up to $5,000.  Second- and third-year students may be eligible to receive endowed, need-based, merit or leadership scholarships, made possible through the generosity of Cumberland alumni and friends.  No scholarships are available for flex program participants.  Scholarship funds are limited; therefore, it is in the applicant's best interest to apply to Cumberland by the February 28, 2009 priority deadline.

Outside scholarship funding may be available to entering students through several organizations.  Consider contacting some of the following sources to inquire about outside scholarships:

  • fraternities and sororities
  • religious groups
  • corporations
  • professional organizations
  • bar associations
  • law firms
  • judges' scholarships

Q. What kinds of scholarships are available for current law students?
A. Three basic categories of scholarships are available for upper-class law students:

  • Merit scholarships - awarded based on academic performance
  • Need-based scholarships - awarded based on financial need; annually updated FAFSA and completed application are required for consideration.  (The Financial Aid Office must have electronically received the student's processed FAFSA information from the Department of Education by April 1, 2009.)  Click here for the Need-Based Application.
