MembershipAn invitation to participate in a Writing Program for membership on the American Journal of Trial Advocacy is extended to students in the top one-third of their class after their second or third semester. The summer writing program is conducted in June and July for students in the top one-third of the class after their first year. First year law students should submit their summer address information to the Journal by the first of June to avoid delays in receiving an invitation to participate in the writing program. Review our Summer Writing Program Schedule and fill out our Summer Contact form. In addition, the Journal conducts a January writing program for second year students who moved into the top one-third of their class after their third semester or who transferred to Cumberland their second year and are ranked in the top-third of their class at Cumberland. NOTE: The Journal may extend a one-time offer to participate in our writing program to the following first year students: (1) the authors of the best memos or briefs in Cumberland’s Lawyering Skills and Legal Reasoning Program; (2) the finalists of the Parham H. Williams Freshman Trial Competition; or (3) the winners of the Donworth Freshman Moot Court Competition.
