Alumni in the New YearThe second semester is off to a great start with one exception. It was 12 degrees in Birmingham this morning. The good thing is that it will be back up in the 60's next week. I wanted to use my first blog of the New Year to highlight some of our alumni and faculty and what their accomplishments. I am always proud of our alumni and their accomplishments but I am particularly proud of Wilson Myers '80 and Tina Ziegenhain '00. They are currently in Iraq working with the public law schools in that country on curriculum reform. It has been 50 years since there was any curriculum reform in Iraq so a revision is imperative. Wilson and Tina are also working on Rule of Law projects in the country. We owe Wilson and Tina our thanks for being willing to undertake such an important mission so far from home. Two other alumni who are mentioned for possible government service are Dewey Hudson '77 and Vicki Davis '87. Both are being mentioned in the press as serious candidates for appointments as United States Attorneys - Dewey in the Eastern District of North Carolina and Vicki in the Southern District of Alabama. Governor Albert Brewer was named the 2008 Alabamian of the Year by the Annistion Star. I was pleased to be asked to provide and comment and said the following about our distinguished faculty member "Albert Brewer combines the best qualities of my two favorite lawyers, Thomas More, the patron saint of lawyers and Atticus Finch. He is a man of great wit, keen intellect and lionhearted courage. He is also a man of deep faith who carries his faith not on his sleeve but in his heart. I simply have never met a finer person. Have a wonderful new year. |
