Exchange Students, Speakers and Some Joyful and Sad Alumni News

We have welcomed 3 students from the Norwich Law School at the University of East Anglia into the Cumberland community. The three students who hail from Dartford, Essex and London will be taking classes with us for a year. This is the third year of our participation in an exchange program with Norwich. Pursuant to our agreement with Norwich, Cumberland students are provided scholarships to pursue LL.M. degrees at Norwich in International Law and Business related programs. There are two Cumberland students currently studying at Norwich.

This week marks the beginning of our Cordell Hull Speaker's Program which brings speakers from diverse fields to the law school to speak to our students. This week our students will hear from Jim Neal, one of the country's best known criminal lawyers. Jim was the lead counsel for the prosecution of high ranking officials during the Watergate scandal. He also had the opportunity to prosecute Jimmy Hoffa for jury tampering. He has also served as counsel to Vice-president Al Gore.

There is both joyful and sad alumni news to report. The joyful news is that Kevin Abdoney '97 has been appointed by Florida Governor Charlie Crist '81 to be a judge in Polk County, Florida. Kevin has a vast amount of practice experience and will do a great job.

The sad news is that three of our alumni passed away this week - Nat Bryan '85, Perry Relfe '75 and John Harrell '66. Please keep their families in your thoughts and prayers.
