Thank you for your interest in Cumberland School of Law! Choosing where to attend law school is more than just where to spend the next three years obtaining your law degree. It is also very likely to put you on the path to your first job. Cumberland was recently ranked by The National Law Journal as a "Top 50 Go-To Law School" based on the percentage of 2011 graduates who took jobs at the nation's largest law firms. This honor reflects highly on the reputation of Cumberland lawyers across the nation and the strong relationship between our alumni and the law school.
Our goal is to provide law students with professional development opportunities that enable them to obtain satisfying work and make meaningful contributions to their employers beginning on day one. We have established resources, services, and a step-by-step training program that will enable you to acquire the skills legal employers seek, conduct an efficient job search, and forge a successful career.
First Year Program
During your first year at Cumberland, you will learn to create an effective legal resume, excel in the interview room, and conduct a job search that is both thorough and efficient. Our step-by-step training program is based on three core principles of human learning: an engaged student, the repetition of information, and the practice of acquired skill. Employers tell us the program has proven very effective in developing strong job candidates.
We also offer you the unique opportunity to be mentored by a student advisor. Each advisor is a second-year or third-year law student who is selected to serve on the Career Development Advisory Board. These students want to help you succeed at Cumberland. Advisors meet with their advisee groups throughout the academic year, serve as a resource to help with the transition to law school, and answer questions about best practices in conducting a job search.
