Advanced Evidence

This course will cover the evidentiary issues presented with the proffer of expert testimony based on psychological research. Topics covered will include subjects such as the admissibility of expert testimony on: (1) the unreliability of eyewitness identification; (2) false confessions; (3) syndrome evidence (rape trauma, battered woman’s/person’s, child abuse, etc.); (4) profile evidence, and (5) the diminished capacity defense. The grade will be based on an exam (given near the middle of the semester) and a research paper.
