2nd Cumberland Alumnus is President of the International Society of Barristers

On March 15, 2013, alumnus Michael A. Worel, from the Cumberland School of Law Class of 1981, became president of the International Society of Barristers (ISOB). Alumnus Scott A. Powell, from the Class of 1978, held this position in 2006. According to the ISOB, membership is by invitation only. In addition, there is a thorough “screening process that considers the lawyer’s ability, experience, accomplishments and ethical standards as assessed by trial lawyers and judges. The ISOB was created in 1965 and is dedicated to preserving trial by jury, the adversary system and an independent judiciary. Its founders conceived the organization to bring together the best of the trial bar in a setting devoid of partisan interests. As individuals, the Fellows of the Society are committed to the highest of ethical standards and to civility in all their personal and professional relationships.”

Michael A. Worel ’81 is with the law firm Dewsnup, King & Olsen in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has an outstanding record of achievements. According to his bio, “he is one of the nation’s premier plaintiffs’ personal injury and medical malpractice lawyers.” Among his more than a dozen professional listing and achievements are Best Lawyers’ Salt Lake City Medical Malpractice Lawyer of the Year (2011); The National Trial Lawyers Association Top 100 Trial Lawyers in Utah; One of 500 Leading Plaintiff’s Lawyers in America, Law Dragon, Inc. (2007); One of 500 New Stars in America, Law Dragon, Inc. (2006); Best Lawyers in America, Personal Injury and Medical Malpractice—Plaintiffs (2003 to present); and Personal InjuryDefendants—(2012). Worel he has served on the board of directors for Big Brother, Big Sisters and the YMCA as well as several other non-legal organizations.
