Bankruptcy Moot Court Competition
Congratulations to Cumberland’s bankruptcy moot court team, John Ellis, Benjamin Coulter, and Stewart Civils, who spent part of spring break arguing at the 17th Annual Judge Conrad B. Duberstein Bankruptcy Moot Court Competition at St. John’s University in New York.
Cumberland advanced to the quarterfinal round from a field of 48 teams. In the latter rounds, the competitors faced a bankruptcy judge who had been counsel in a hallmark case; another judge was the author of a leading opinion on one of the competition’s issues. Cumberland’s team was complimented by both judges for the competitors’ command of the cases.
The team was coached by bankruptcy law specialist Bill D. Bensinger of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, who is a Cumberland alumni and earned his LL.M. in bankruptcy law from St. John’s. Many thanks to Mr. Bensinger for the hours and expertise he contributed to the team.
