Cordell Hull Speakers Forum to host the Head of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings's Insurance Section
Cumberland School of Law's Cordell Hull Speakers Forum is proud to welcome J. S. 'Chris' Christie to the John L. Carroll Moot Courtroom on October 4, 2012, at 11 a.m.
The head of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings's Insurance Section and co-chair of the firm's Pro Bono section, Mr. Christie will talk about navigating the rocky course of the criminal justice system representing a death row inmate. The presentation promises to raise important questions into the administration of capital punishment, and give insight into this area where life and death, justice and politics converge.
In 1987, Victor Stephens was convicted of killing two men during a robbery in Hale County, Alabama. The jury recommended life in prison, the judge, however, overrode the recommendation and sentenced Stephens to death. Mr. Christie undertook a 14 year long quest to get a new trial for Stephens. In 2011, a federal court granted Stephens a new trial after 24 years on Alabama's death row.
This event is free and open to the public.
