Cumberland Teams Win Regional National Trial Competition

The National Trial Competition is sponsored annually by the Texas Young Lawyers Association and the American College of Trial Lawyers.  This weekend, the Trial Advocacy Board of Cumberland School of Law hosted Region 6 of the NTC in downtown Birmingham.  The regional competition welcomed twenty-six teams from thirteen law schools in Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.
           
Over 200 judges and attorneys were recruited from all over the state of Alabama to judge fifty-two total trials over the weekend.  After five rounds of competition, two teams from Cumberland finished first and second.   

The winning team of Ross Massey, Carrie Hodge, and Samantha Nicolle defeated teams from University of Florida College of Law, University of Alabama School of Law and Barry University School of Law in the preliminary rounds.  They defeated Nova Southeastern University School of Law in the semi-final round and the University of Alabama School of Law in the final round to go undefeated for the tournament.

Also undefeated in this tournament and finishing second was the team of Alyson Hood, Todd Buchanan, and SeTara Foster.  This team defeated teams from Florida Coastal University College of Law, University of Miami School of Law and University of Mississippi School of Law in the preliminary rounds.  They defeated Florida Coastal University College of Law in the semi-final round and Stetson University School of Law in the final round.

Cumberland’s teams are coached by Jim Roberts '94 of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Sara Williams '06 of Birmingham.  Both teams will travel to Houston, Texas on April 6, 2011 to compete in the finals of the NTC.
