Cumberland Wins Trial CompetitionCongratulations to Drew Haskins, Patrick Hinchey, Sam Nicolle, and Brittany Stancombe on winning the 2011 National Trial Advocacy Competition at Michigan State University College of Law.
The competition problem was issued to all the teams on August 18 however our team was not selected until September 12 so they only had fifteen days to prepare. After great performances in the preliminary rounds they advanced to the quarter-finals where they defeated Maryland. In the semi-final round they defeated Houston and in the final round beat Florida. Brittany Stancombe won the award for best cross examination. The team was coached by Sara Williams '06, an associate at Carr Allison. Other national team members that helped this team prepare for the competition were: Keith Knowlton, Danny Patterson, Mallory Schneider, and Neal Townsend. Other schools in this competition were: Akron, Alabama, Barry, Buffalo, California Western, Cincinnati, Columbus, Creighton, Denver, Detroit Mercy, Faulkner, Florida, Georgia State, Houston, Howard, John Marshall, Loyola LA, Maryland, St. Mary's, St. Thomas, South Texas, Southern Methodist, Thomas M. Cooley, Thurgood Marshall, and William and Mary.
