The Law School Remembers an Outstanding Alumnus, Jere White Jr., with the Jere White Trial Advocacy Institute
On November 30, Cumberland School of Law and The Alabama State Committee of the American College of Trial Lawyers, will host the Jere White Trial Advocacy Institute at the Wynfrey Hotel in Birmingham, Ala.
Proceeds from this program will fund the Jere F. White, Jr. ’80 Fellows Program. This program has been approved for both Alabama and Georgia Continuing Legal Education [CLE] credits.
Prior to his death on October 3, 2011, Jere and his wife, Lyda, established the Jere F. White, Jr. Fellows Program at Cumberland School of Law. The Fellows Program seeks to recruit outstanding students with strong academic credentials, a history of leadership and commitment to service, thereby promoting the development of lawyers who share the ideals that were so important to Jere.
Jere will long be recognized as one of the most outstanding lawyers in the country. More importantly, he will be remembered as a great person, friend and mentor.
Jere is a graduate of the University of Georgia and Cumberland School of Law, Jere was a founding member of Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC in Birmingham, Ala.
Jere held himself and others to the highest standard of the practice of law. A third-generation lawyer, he was truly a lawyer’s lawyer. He cherished his relationships with the Bench and lawyers on both of sides of the Bar. Jere balanced his success as a lawyer with an even stronger devotion to his faith, family, friends, and community.
The lineup of speakers at the Trial Institute will include some of the top lawyers from around the southeast. The luncheon speaker will be Mr. Bobby Lee Cook. He will be introduced by U.S. District Court Judge Sharon Blackburn ’77, N.D. AL. The list of the other speakers include Leon Ashford, David Marsh ’81, Mike Atchison ’79, Tabor Novak, Jr., Greg Breedlove ’79, John Saxon, John Dalton, Robert D. Segall, Edward R. Jackson ’76, Randal Sellers, Anthony Joseph ’80, Chilton Varner, Warren Lightfoot, and Joe Whatley, Jr.
