Graduation Information

Commencement for the Class of ’15 is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15 at Wright Center on the Samford Campus.  Everyone is welcome. As graduates prepare for this important day, please pay special attention to the following:

Housekeeping:  Be sure to clean mailboxes and lockers before leaving.  These will be purged following graduation.

Name Pronunciation:  If you have a name that is difficult to pronounce, please send phonetic pronunciation to Ms. Nelson as soon as possible (

Accommodations:  If a family member has special needs for seating, please send an e-mail to Ms. Nelson.  A space will be reserved in Wright Center for your relative and one caregiver.

Regalia:  The University will have a graduation expo on March 12.  At that time, students will be measured for academic regalia. Students may pick up regalia May 13-15 in the Samford Bookstore.  Regalia should be returned immediately following graduation ceremonies.

Attire:  Guys should wear a shirt and tie—no coat.  Girls should wear comfortable clothing and dark, close-toed shoes.

Reception:  Prior to commencement, a reception for graduates, family members and friends will be held on the Brewer Plaza at 4:00 p.m.  Hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Graduation Time and Place:  Students need to meet at the Brock Recital Hall (east of Wright Center) no later than 5:15 p.m. on Friday, May 15.  Commencement will begin at 6:00.  The ceremony should last approximately 75 minutes.

Procedure:  There is not a practice for graduation.  The processional and conferring of degrees are directed by faculty and staff marshals who rely on information located on the authorization cards students receive upon arrival in Wright Center.  This card is extremely important.  Graduates will be given brief instructions prior to the processional, and students should trust the faculty and staff to direct them; however, the card will need to be visible to marshals at all times--including the conferring of degrees.  Students will not relinquish the card until it is given to Dean Denning on stage.

Photography:  Family members will not be allowed to come to the stage in order to take pictures during the ceremony.  Zap Photo (205-345-2686) will take professional pictures and will contact students after commencement regarding photograph packages. DVD copies of commencement will be offered online and in High-Definition three weeks after commencement ceremonies.
