Cumberland Wins NITA Tournament of Champions
The Tournament of Champions is considered the premier law school trial competition in the nation. Each year, only sixteen of the best trial advocacy schools are invited to the tournament based on their previous three-year performances in the National Trial Competition, the AAJ National Student Trial Advocacy Competition and prior appearances at the Tournament of Champions. The tournament is sponsored by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and Lexis Nexis.
Cumberland was invited to this year’s competition along with Baylor, Stetson, Chicago-Kent, Loyola (Chicago), Stanford, Suffolk, Syracuse, Stetson, St. John’s, Colorado, Duquesne, Kentucky, Maryland, Northwestern, Washington University and Wisconsin.
The tournament was held this past weekend in New York. Cumberland beat Stetson, St. John’s, Duquesne and Wisconsin in the preliminary rounds. They met St. John’s again in the semi-finals and won. They then beat Northwestern in the finals to win this prestigious national championship.
